Kevin James Trombold
A Seattle native and University of Washington graduate, Kevin has dedicated the last 15 years to passionately defending the rights of people charged with criminal offenses. After graduating from the UW, Kevin obtained his law degree from the New College of California, a San Francisco law school with a national reputation for producing tough, committed defense attorneys.
After working on several high-profile cases with the California defense legend Charles Gary. Kevin returned to his home in Seattle in the early 1990’s to become a staff attorney for Defender Associations. During nine fruitful years at TDA, one of four non-profit public defender agencies in the Seattle/King County area, he handled thousands of cases ranging from truancy to homicide. Often in trial, Kevin has become comfortable before jurors and judges and skilled at negotiating with prosecutors. He also devoted long hours to two well-known efforts to undo systemic injustice in the courts. He spear-headed a campaign to end unnecessary arrests of at-risk youth in Seattle and was active in the Racial Disparity Project, which demonstrated to the Supreme Court that women and minorities had been unfairly targeted by local law enforcement agencies.
Since founding his own criminal defense firm in 2002, Kevin has been nominated as a “Rising Star” lawyer by Washington Law and Politics. He is a graduate of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, the Public Defender Trial Training, and the National College for DUI Defense. He has handled more than 600 DUI cases and is considered an expert in the trial strategies, science and techniques in DUI cases.
Consistent with his belief that better-educated defense attorneys get better results for their clients, Kevin often speaks to public defenders and the private bar. He has led seminars on DUI law, contempt of court issues, general trial techniques and skills, and family law.
The Washington DUI Center is an outgrowth of Kevin’s commitment to justice and fairness. As a free legal center for the defense bar and the accused, its philosophy is defense teamwork. Kevin believes that creating a research center at the cutting edge of DUI law and making it free to all defense attorneys will guarantee more just results for the accused in the courts of this state.
